On behalf of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), we are delighted to offer our heartiest congratulations to the Singapore Fruits and Vegetables Importers and Exporters Association (SFVA) on the occasion of their 63rd anniversary. Singapore is a major trading partner of the United States and the USDA highly values the SFVA’s efforts to maintain open trade between the two countries. We also recognize the pivotal role that SFVA member companies play in introducing new and innovative products to Singapore consumers.
Our US fruit and vegetable associations like the California Table Grape Commission, the California Tree Fruit Agreement, the U.S. Potato Board, the Pear Bureau Northwest, the Washington Apple Commission and companies like Sunkist have close relationships with SFVA, which result in frequent visits and initiatives by businessmen from both countries and help expand trade between Singapore and the United States.
The USDA is always keen to share new science and discoveries that support better and healthier food products and we have worked with SFVA to organize training programs that improve product handling, increase shelf life, and reduce wastage (which also generate higher margins for everyone involved in the produce trade). Our commodity trade associations offer training programs as well (both locally and in the United States) and will continue to develop programs that add value for SFVA members. Singapore consumers also benefit from knowing more about product availability and use. We understand from experience that this is one of the best avenues maintain consumer loyalty and increase consumption.
To all of the officials and members of the SFVA, we thank you for all of the years of friendship, business, communication, and cooperation and look forward to working closely with each and every one of you in the future.
